Warwick, Rhode Island. February 24, 2010 –SyQwest Inc., a leading supplier of commercial and military sonar solutions, which specializes in high-resolution sonar and acoustic systems for precision seafloor exploration announced today that the U.S. Navy has awarded it a five year ID/IQ contract with a maximum value at completion of $9.7M.
Under the contract, SyQwest Inc will repair, restore and replace large spherical array (LSA) and wide aperture array (WAA) outboard electronic bottles (OBE) used on the US Navy fleet of attack class submarines. The OBE is an integral part of the submarine sonar system. Each LSA and WAA OBE contains electronics to provide amplification, filtering, analog-to-digital conversion, and signal encoding. Digital acoustic data for all the hydrophone channels processed within the OBE are transmitted via serial data lines to the inboard Sonar system processing electronics.
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., is the contracting agency. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) is the Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare.
